Hey all you cool cats and kittens! Have y’all watched that show yet? Tiger King? Omg… go watch it right after reading this post if you haven’t yet! Anyways, now that we’re all sitting at home, spending A LOT of time here, have you noticed all of the cluttered spaces that seem impossible to organize? I have. The pantry, the spice cabinet, the fridge, my beauty products, THE GARAGE. Like, endless clutter, but it’s all essential stuff that we need in the house. So I’ve been doing a lot of organizing and I’ve bought some amazing home organization products to help with the clutter and these awkward spaces.
Let’s tackle the pantry first.
The pantry is hard because it’s food. We all need food to survive. So, it’s almost like the more “clutter” you have in the pantry, the better. Of course it would be easy to just clear out the pantry and empty out the space to make it more Marie-Kondo-esque, but it’s always better to have ingredients and food in the pantry when you’re making recipes, or if someone eats a bat and the entire world has to go into quarantine and not leave their houses… Cough, cough.
So I bought a lot of baskets, little shelves, a door rack, and those three-tiered can organizers to help organize everything and make it all more visible. Now remember, our pantry is freakin’ TINY. Like yea, it would be great to just have one of those huge pantries that is super easy to organize and everything is spaced out and easy to see/grab, but our pantry is like the size of a school locker. So it HAS to be super organized or else nothing would fit and stuff would get shoved to the back and forgotten about.
The door rack is a HUGE life saver. It was super easy to put together and hang on the door. I put all of our condiments, vinegars, hot sauce, baking goods, olive oil, vegetable oil, flax seeds, chia seeds, granola, nuts, etc. on the door rack to make room in the pantry, plus that stuff gets used a lot so it’s easier to just grab it right off the rack.
The three-tier can organizer is also great because now all of those forgotten cans at the back of the pantry are up high enough to see and remember. I bought three of these to organize different things. One is cans, of course. Another is to organize our teas and drink mixes like chocolate milk, protein, CALM magnesium tea, etc. And the other is to organize our spices and act as a spice rack.
I also have some baskets in the pantry to organize the sweets, the salty snacks, K-cups, rice, and bread. And a basket up top with koozies in it because our house is always the go-to for hanging out and drinking beer so we like to have koozies handy.
Skincare and beauty product organization time.
For my beauty products, I bought this lazy susan storage tray with compartments in it. It doesn’t look huge like it would hold a lot of stuff, but trust me, it is perfect for skincare and beauty products and NOTHING got left behind. I have mine organized by eye products, oils and serums, cleansers and masks, morning products, and night time products. And in the center compartment I have my Tinkle Face Razors. It’s super easy to wake up in the morning grab a cleanser out of the cleansing compartment, then go to the oils and serums compartment, then go to the morning products compartment and I’m done! Same thing for night time. Instead of digging through a drawer or a cabinet trying to remember which product is for what/when, everything is very micromanaged in this lazy susan storage tray.
Now onto the beast of the garage.
Some background: my boyfriend is a college-trained car mechanic so he literally has every car-tool you could ever imagine in our garage, along with a bunch of sprays and oils and greases and stuff like that (???). When we first moved into the house, they were all just kind of scattered all over the garage. So I bought a bunch of these heavy-duty storage bins with lids to organize all of this stuff on the shelves in our garage.
I also turned one shelving unit into a camping-outdoors-specific shelf where I put all of that into storage bins also. So now when we go camping, all we have to do is grab the three storage bins off of the shelf and throw them in the car and we’re good to go.
I also labeled all of the storage bins with a gold Sharpie so we know exactly where to find everything. Plus the lids keep the bugs out. Nothing’s worse than reaching into a bin and a lizard jumps out and gives you a heart attack. Except maybe snakes or mice or spiders or whatever else, haha!
I bought these clear, acrylic storage bins to go in our fridge to hold our snacks, jars, eggs, and drinks so everything doesn’t just get scattered. Plus it’s super easy to just reach in the fridge and know exactly where a cheese stick or the jar of jalapenos will be.
My life feels so much more organized now that I have all of these new home organization products and everything is nice and micromanaged and in their designated spots. The longer this stay-at-home order goes on, the more home organization products I’m going to end up with and the whole house will have a specific storage bin or basket. The dogs will end up sleeping in storage bins probably… But at least it’s clean and organized right?! 😉
