I wish I could be one of those girls who just wakes up and applies some moisturizer and looks absolutely perfect. However, that’s just not in the cards for me. I have an uneven skin tone, I have dark circles under my eyes, my cheeks are often red and splotchy, and without makeup on, everyone always asks “what’s wrong?” because they think I’m sick or that I’ve been crying. Nope, that’s just my natural face! Haha! Therefore, there is just some makeup I never leave the house without.
To be completely honest, I’m usually running late for wherever I’m supposed to be. And most of the time, that’s work in the mornings. So, instead of applying my full makeup routine and being 20 minutes late to work, I have developed this makeup shortcut strategy that I never leave the house without, to avoid the inevitable “you look sick” or “you look tired” or “what’s wrong, you look like you’ve been crying” or “I need to see some ID because you look 12”… And it has definitely saved me from a lot of embarrassment!
#1 I never leave the house without my liquid foundation. I use Lancome Teint Idole Liquid 24H Longwear SPF 15 Foundation. This is my absolute favorite liquid foundation that I’ve ever used. I have tried others, but they’re either too cakey or not buildable. This Teint Idole is light and mattefying but still provides the overall coverage that I need to hide my uneven skin tone! I love how it looks natural and not very obvious like a layer of foundation all over my face.
And there are a about a million colors. I have one in 340 Bisque N for winter when my skin is more pale. And I have one in 360 Bisque N for summer and spring or when I have a fresh spray tan! The “N” stands for neutral undertones, which I desperately need. I’m Native American so my skin always has a red tint and with the wrong foundation color, it can look orange. There is also “C” for cool undertones and “W” for warm undertones. If you are in the market for a new liquid foundation, I highly recommend the Lancome Teint Idole!!
#2 I also never leave the house without my eyebrows filled in. I use Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in “Dark Brown”. This is also my absolute favorite eyebrow pencil because it’s not too waxy where it gets everywhere and smears around throughout the day. It’s nice and compact so it’s easy to control where and how you are applying. My eyebrows are shaped completely differently and start way too far apart so I have to fill them in every day or else I look like I had a bad wax job. I’m definitely going to get my eyebrows microbladed someday, though!!
#3 I never leave the house without concealer under my eyes. I use Urban Decay Naked Skin Complete Coverage Concealer in the lightest shade to cover the bags and dark circles under my eyes and make myself look more awake. I also use this under my liquid foundation if I have any blemishes! Putting it on over the blemish first before the liquid foundation helps cover it up and then the liquid foundation helps mask it to be the same color as the rest of my skin!
#4 I never leave the house without mascara either! I think mascara alone can change the entire appearance of your face and give you the appearance that you didn’t just roll out of bed. In fact, I am such a huge fan of mascara and will never be caught dead in public without mascara on, that I just went ahead and had eyelash extensions put on so that I will always look like I have mascara. You can read my post about my eyelash extensions here. I use Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I swear to god it is the best mascara I have ever used. And I have tried a lot of mascaras! This one is by far the best. It not only lengthens your eyelashes but it also really really volumizes them so they look like false eyelashes every time. And they don’t clump to look like spider legs. This mascara is absolutely perfect and I never leave the house without it!
That is my go-to makeup I never leave the house without. Just those four products can transform my face and help me look ready and more prepared for the day. Of course, if I have more time, I’ll wear bronzer or eyeshadow but if I’m running really late, those four are always my go-to.
