Summer Reading List

Summer is here folks! So once you have your summer staples, summer dresses, and boho summer accessories ready, it’s time to get your summer reading list together! I absolutely love laying out by the pool or on the beach while reading a good book. Those are my favorite times and places to read I think. The warmth of the sun, the sound of waves (or children splashing), and multitasking by getting a tan at the same time… There’s nothing better!

I have made a list of the books I’ve read so far as well as the books I’m planning on reading. Since I don’t have the luxury of having summers off or working from home, I probably won’t get around to reading all of these by the end of summer, but I’ve definitely been fitting in a lot more reading time now that the house to-do list has calmed down! Lately my boyfriend has been focusing his downtime on fixing up these dirt bikes and four wheelers to either keep or re-sell for a profit. So while he does that, I sit in a camp chair in the garage and read my book and lend a helping hand when he needs it.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

I just finished reading this one and it was so good!! There were so many twists and turns and jaw-dropping moments all throughout the book. The beginning was kind of slow for me. I think it’s because I don’t have any kids so I don’t understand the stress and trauma of losing a child. So maybe for the mamas out there it will be much more page-turning at the beginning. But then a few chapters in, the twists and turns started happening and I couldn’t put it down after that. It’s a shorter read so if you have a short trip coming up, you could definitely read this one before the trip is over!

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

I’m currently reading this one right now. I’m sure you have already read this book or have watched the HBO show (I’m caught up with season 2!) but I’ve heard that the book is a lot better than the show so I had to give it a read to see for myself! And I absolutely love the show so I’m really excited to read the book. This book is pretty long but every minute of the show was super interesting so I’m sure I’ll get through this really quickly. And a lot of people have told me that this was their FAVORITE book. So there ya go…

The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond

I actually stumbled upon this book on Amazon when I was looking for another book. The description on Amazon says, “How far is too far when it comes to protecting your marriage? Find out in this relentlessly paced novel of psychological suspense for anyone who loved The Couple Next Door.” And since I just finished that one and loved it, I knew this one had to be added to my reading list.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Alright, alright I give up, I’m going to read this book that everyone has been talking about! It has over 44,000 reviews on Amazon, it’s part of Reese Witherspoon’s book club, and I think just about everyone has read this book or has at least heard people talking about it. So I’m giving in to peer pressure and adding it to my summer reading list. This isn’t the typical genre of book that I like to read but I’m going to give it a shot and I’ll report back with my review after I’m done!

The Rumor by Elin Hilderbrand

Another blogger I follow recommended this book as a summer read. I’ve never read any of Elin Hilderbrand’s other works, but I’ve heard nothing but great things. I have also heard that her novels are “easy reads” so this might be a vacation book for me. You know vacation books, the ones where you start reading it at the airport waiting to board your plane, continue reading it throughout the trip, and then finish reading it before you get back home? Those are my vacation books.

The First Mistake by Sandie Jones

It’s no secret that Thriller novels are my favorite kind of genre right now, and has been for the past few years. So it really shouldn’t be a surprise that I have another thriller novel on my summer reading list! Sandie Jones also wrote The Other Woman, which I’ve heard to be really really good.

The Mother-In-Law by Sally Hepworth

Surprise, surprise! Another thriller that I’ve added to my summer reading list. This one also has a lot of really good reviews on Amazon. I have a few friends with mother-in-law dramas that I’m planning on mailing this book to once I’m done reading it! 😉

I also ordered The Kon-Tiki Expedition by Raft Across the South Seas by Thor Heyerdahl for my boyfriend to be his summer reading book. We watched the movie on Netflix the other day and it was sooooo good y’all!! Such a great story and re-made documentary. We were all hyped about talking about us moving onto a sailboat someday to travel the world and so we wanted to watch a sailing-related movie and came across Kon-Tiki on Netflix. It’s the story behind the discovery that Polynesia could have been discovered by South Americans in the Pre-Columbian era, as opposed to the then-standing theory that Polynesia was discovered by settlers from Asia. Thor and a group of five men travel 4,300 nautical miles by raft to prove that his theory is right. You should definitely watch the movie and if you have an boat-loving boyfriend, husband, or friend, you should introduce them to this book or give it as a gift!

And of course, you should definitely read The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine and Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. Those are still my favorite books that I’ve read recently. Pretty Girls is not for the faint of heart and can be quite graphic, but I love horror movies and this book was like reading a horror movie, so I absolutely loved it! And The Last Mrs. Parrish has some d*mn good drama and plot twists! Both of these books were complete page-turners and had me on the edge of my seat or getting up to lock the doors in my house, haha!

What books are on your summer reading list?!
